Polycystic ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

According to the PCOS awareness association PCOS affects approximately 10 million women worldwide and is one of the leading causes of infertility among women with approx. 70% of women today remaining undiagnosed. The exact cause is unknown however, genetics, diet, lifestyle and environmental factors may play a key role in the development of PCOS.

PCOS is a complex condition with a diverse range of clinical symptoms; some symptoms that may present include:

• Irregular menstrual cycle

• Amenorrhoea (absence of period)

• Acne

• Scalp hair loss

• Difficulty falling pregnant

• Changes in mood

• Excess weight/obesity

• Sleep apnoea’

• Excess hair growth

Diet, lifestyle and regular exercise can play a major role in reducing symptoms associated with PCOS.
